So welcome to the first day of classes everyone. Welcome back to school, welcome back to life.
Is it odd to use song quotes to describe ourselves? I like to use two lines from a Mindless Self Indulgence song to describe college students. It’s really short;
“Under educated.
Extra caffeinated.”
I don’t know. I just like it. :] But I guess today went well. My day started off at 7:30am to shower and such. At 8:55am I arrived at Shafer Street Playhouse for my first class of the day, Acting I. All we did was go over the syllabus. A lot of performance and wierd things going to happen in that class. X] Of course we were released an hour early so half of us flocked to PAC (the performing arts building) and others went to Starbucks in the library. We all just talked, catching up as performance majors made their way to PAC as well as classes were being released. We were all waiting for the 11am Introduction to Drama class (the only Intro to Drama) to begin in Hodges Theatre. Of course, we all gathered into our little groups, hugging and screaming, “Oh my God!! So & so! How was your break?” Elliot refused to say hi because I apparently abandonded him before we left. Idk. It was over a month ago. :/ But Intro to Drama will be difficult. A new script every week, essay exams… eww. But I’m looking foward to reading The Clean House. I had to drop out last semester because I couldn’t keep up but hopefully I will be able to this semester. We were let out early. So Cindy, Susan, Amy and I waited outside the former business building for Focused Inquiry class at 12pm. Went to class, went over syllabus then left. I waited outside for the girls and Jason came by so we chatted until they came out. Amy wanted to take a yoga class so we went to the Dance Office to get her an override but they were already full. :’[ So it was then lunch!! Then Costume Construction at 2pm! Then guess what?! I found out I needed another book! Tori and I then proceeded to head to the bookstore to purchase the costuming book. The VBC's line was way too long for our patience and the VCU Bookstore just didn't carry it. X/ And now, I find myself here. Writing in the most boring manner of my first day of Spring semester.
But Mindless Self Indulgence playing in the background makes me happy. :] I am now looking forward to a 2 hour Color Theory class that starts at 6:40pm. Ew. Just ew. Why so late? Oh, and because of that class I have to miss a meeting for The Merchant of Venice. I’m so excited for the show! :D I get to be assistant stage manager (as Jake calls me, his minion) and costume designer! But I can’t go all out because it’s a student production.
But I have to miss my sister’s show this weekend. I’m so disappointed. It’s all because of the All-Call for For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf. Super long title. I kind of hate these All-Calls. Why does theatre demand to take over my life? It’s one of those things you question why you are doing it in the first thing. After it’s all over, you want to go through the hell of it again.
God of Hell opens this weekend at Shafer Street Playhouse. I’m excited because Joe Carlson is directing. Amazing actor. I enjoyed working with him on Dracula. XD Okay, so I may have a little crush on him but hey, we all get these upperclassmen crushes. Oh, how glorious life is. Not really. Just taking it one step at a time.
